Like living through a role playing session

This is a sequel (to elfshadow) but I don't think you have to know the predecessor to enjoy this book.
It's main characters are a female half-elf named Arilyn Moonblade, a not-as-stupid-as-he-seems human Danilo Thann, and a not-completely-evil elf named Elaith Craunobler (hope I got this right - grin).
I won't tell more about the plot (even if it IS good) since I found that what fascinated me most about this book is not the bare story but the many details around it.
For one lots of situations remind me on role-playing sessions with one big difference: the solutions which are found are simply more interesting than what often happens in role-playing sessions (it's not "we take our weapons and attack!!!").
Some details (like the riddle of the dragon) are simply ingenious. I wonder how someone can have such a vivid imagination!
Next I simply like the characters - all of them. Each and everyone has distinct features which lead to word-fencing and simply comical dialogs.
What some people might find missing is a certain kind of depth in the book. It is simply an enjoyable adventure, without dark corners or the possibility of death of one of its main characters in it. It is also not a saga style book (no complex background scenario and lots of interwoven plots.) If you want some darker, less adventure based book, try "A Game of Thrones" from George Martin.
Instead this book can be read in one fast sweep, like eating a good dessert.

A masterpiece, one of the best Forgotten Realms Novels ever.

Elaine Cunningham firmly takes her place among the best contemporary novelists with this book. Elfsong is a brilliant piece of literature that will challenge the readers mind and keep them guessing the whole way through. Readers will find it hard to put down, and even harder to keep themselves from skipping ahead to find out what happens! Filled with riddles and songs, even an encounter with a mighty dragon! It is the stuff classics are made of. This book is the sequel to Elfshadow, it beats it's predecessor by a longshot.

Arilyn Moonblade has won a place in my heart!

Definitely two of my all time favorites, Elfshadow and Elfsong, bring to life the story of Arilyn Moonblade, a half-elf Harper, and her adventures in the World of Faerun, as she tries to cope with her dual heritage and seeks to unlock the mysteries of her magical moonblade sword.
The books are so incredibly well written that the reader feels that they have been transported to the Forgotten Realms universe and are actually present among the characters, seeing what they see, feeling what they feel, sensing what they sense. Elaine Cunnigham has truly outdone herself and has presented us with a masterpiece of literature the likes of which we have seen only in JRR Tolkien's work, RA Salvatore's The Dark Elf and Icewind Dale trilogies and in authors Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman's Dragonlance Chronicles and Legends trilogies.
She has done a FANTASTIC job of both acquiring vast knowledge relevant to Faerun as well as presenting this material relating to the customs, the religion and the history of Toril, efficiently and successfully! Her solid grasp of factual detail makes her very capable of providing the necessary background needed to carry out the difficult task of writing Forgotten Realms novels, which is something often missing from the work of many Fantasy authors. Consequently, from the moment you pick up the books you have trouble putting them down and if that is not a clear sign of a fantastic writer/author who can come up with a great plot, I don't know what is!
Elves, spies, assassins, honor, bravery, magic, and swordfights are all about. Elfshadow and Elfsong make up for a great trilogy along with Silver Shadows and are a "must read" together with Evermeet, especially for all those who have a soft spot for everything Elven! In short, it's what Fantasy reading SHOULD be! One should seriously start thinking about turning these books into movies...

A solid foundation to a more Abundant Life

Dr Philip W Groves was one of the most profound spiritual teachers of the 20th century. Any of his books are well worth reading. Spiritual Foundations should be amongst the first to begin with, as there is a special clarity which I find remarkable.
To get an overview of what is covered, read the preface by Maery O’Connell, which is an excellent introduction to the book.
For those who are familiar with the Writings of Emanuel Swedenborg, arguably the greatest spiritual explorer of the eighteenth century, this book is a diamond. Philip Groves has digested Swedenborg’s theological writings, and with the light of Higher Consciousness, makes Swedenborg’s deep insights more readily understandable in our scientific era. This is readily seen in how Dr Groves incorporates the language of correspondences into his teachings.

For those wishing to appreciate Life more deeply, this book will reveal some precious insights. For example, in chapter 2, ‘Soul, Mind and Body’ we read “the physical body coheres and functions as a unity while life is present, but it collapses and disintegrates as soon as life withdraws. Life is primarily in the soul and not the body, and the life of the soul is something very different from bodily existence. In the deeper states of surrendered relaxation there is the quite unmistakable experience of the inner reality of life as something completely removed from the customary sensations of ordinary awareness.”

A big plus, to help us grow spiritually are some practical tasks at the end of various chapters. For example, in the chapter on ‘Soul, Mind and Body’ we are reminded of the importance of examining our lives and placing ourselves under a Higher Power, confessing our mistakes, errors and sins, in order to experience the opening up of deeper spiritual resources. Dr Groves provides detailed practical help in this process of self-examination. And there are other practical tasks relating to Surrendered relaxation to the Divine; learning not to identify oneself with every mood, feeling, thought and circumstance that enters consciousness; and becoming familiar with the language of correspondences (the language of spirit).

So, read the extracts from chapter 1, Spiritual Foundations, and chapter 8, Regeneration, to see if you are drawn to the style and content. I think its amazing and I hope you will agree. And at the end, you will find a picture of this amazing man and a brief outline of his gifts and interests. His purpose in writing his books was to guide people into the abundance of life, (an abundance that he experienced), and developing a greater knowledge and understanding of the world we live in.

The idea for a visual dictionary of architecture evolved slowly over a number of years as I taught in the design studio, read books and articles, and confronted terms that were either new to me, were being used in sometimes contradictory ways, or simply tossed out with the assumption that everyone knew what they meant. And so I often asked myself what did these terms really mean?

Of course, there were already general dictionaries that supplied these meanings if one bothered to look them up, and for more discipline-specific terms, there were architectural, historical, and construction dictionaries available. But few had more than a smattering of illustrations. And since architecture is such a visual art, I believed there was a need for a truly visual dictionary. The few visual dictionaries that were available simply named various things and their constituent parts but neglected to supply definitions and meanings. So there was this void to be filled.

The initial phase of the project, of course, consisted of gathering essential architectural terms and their definitions from various sources. For many, I had to reference textbooks to more fully understand the meaning of a term and then to compose a concise yet accurate definition. At times, defining one term required including other terms embedded in the definition. This led to a natural nesting of terms into sets.

As I continued to compile terms and thought about the project, it became clear that I wanted to not only properly define architectural terms but also gather them in a way that related the terms to each other in a logical and hierarchical way, using both illustrations as well as relative positioning on a page to convey these relationships. So then the truly challenging and fun part of the project was to see how I could organize the terms in such a way that their groupings into sections and subsections made sense.

To do this, I started with fairly obvious divisions, such as design and structures. Once the fundamental term was defined, I then arranged related terms in a hierarchical fashion. For example, design can be defined both as a process and a product, which led to two different sections. In the case of structures, I began with the basic idea of a structure and related concepts that applied to all structures, regardless of material or scale. The second level of terms began with basic types of structural elements, such as arches and beams, and structural systems, such as frames and plate structures, each of which deserved its own section.

Historical terms created its own set of problems regarding inclusion and proper placement. While some terms may be considered obsolete, they remained, in my view, useful as points of reference or retained a certain charm.

Once I had identified the major sections of the dictionary and assigned each term to one of the sections, I imported them into Pagemaker and began laying out the terms and definitions on each page according to their relationships to each other.

I then printed the page out and laid tracing paper over the page and roughed out ideas for illustrations. In many cases, this necessitated moving some of the terms and their definitions around. I then did the final drawings for each page on a single sheet with leader lines and arrows. After these sheets of drawings were scanned, I placed the scans in Pagemaker and adjusted the terms and definitions further to fit. In this second edition, I used Photoshop to eliminate the leader lines and arrows and used the lines and arrows within InDesign. This gave me some leeway in the placement of the images.

It has been a pleasure to develop this second edition and I hope the spirit and flavor of the first edition endures the inclusion of current technology.

Overseas Edition

This is an oversees edition book if you look at the picture of the rear cover closely, it says "This edition authorized for sale in the Indian Sub-continent only" This was taped over when I received it, which is what made me suspicious. After going back and zooming in on the picture of the rear cover I saw this. I guess its my fault for not paying closer attention to this and the ISBN. But Maple_Leaf_Books should make this known in the description. They did however tell me they will give me a full refund of charges, I will update once I return it. I have no clue if this book is even close to the american edition or not, there is not even a page in the beginning that tells you a publication or copyright date. Elegant Simplicity and Mastery

A brilliantly conceived book. So simple, so direct, so thorough. Almost any idiot could have written it, but fortunately an idiot didn't. Frank Ching has mastery of presentation and elegant simplicity that sets him apart from the pack, and this is the very best of his work. I reference it often, and find myself just reading it for ideas and pleasure.

Excellent book, a MUST!!! Seller solved my problem.

My drafting teacher at college recommended me this book and it is really excellent, very useful and complete. It is a must for any interior design or architecture student. The item I ordered came with a torn page (the upper corner was missing) and I contacted the seller immediately and told him about the problem. He apologized and give me a credit for 1/2 the price of the book, so he solved the issue. I am very satisfied and would order from him again.

It doesn't get better folks - I can spend hours per page just absorbing the dense, yet clear construction drawings of Atelier Bow Wow. A must for any architect who thinks the current drawings standards we live by are the end-all. AIA, sit down and take a lesson, because you're about to get schooled.

Bow Wow not only has fascinating projects, but this book is presentation in a beautiful and unique method. Love that it goes back to the fundamentals of architecture: the drawings, but in a massively creative (and effective!) method.

great graphic and drawing techniques for architects

This is book is great for representational drawing techniques for architects but there is not much text explaining the firm or philosophy. 80% graphics 20% text. The book is most of their houses and it is all line drawings beginning with sectional perspectives with elevations and plans in the back. The layering of text, call out details and focusing particularly on how people use the spaces is great. There is a minimalist quality by using strictly line work and line weights but the layers of space make the drawings rich and complex.

Highly recommend.

Cade has made the #1 spot in my fav men of Sierra Cartwright!!! Whatever he pleases, I'm his completely!

I want to hate Sofia for getting the chance with Cade, but I can't hate her. She's a strong, independent and successful business woman who takes no s***. She knows her strength and has built her company from her mother's vision. She didn't had it easy, but never gives up. She's curious and willing to try with Cade.

Cade is a bastard child. A chip on his shoulder that keeps him hidden on the ranch he inheritated, along with some other demons that he thinks no one would understand. And old habits die hard when no one tries to break them.
It's Sofia who evokes feelings in him and yet he pushes her away when she tries to break his walls.
But it's also her that brings out his most dominant nature. Her curiousity awakes some fantasies and she's willing to fulfill them.

His kinks are so freaking hot that I was on fire more than once.

Their chemistry is strong right from the beginning and just gets stronger and stronger with every touch, with every bit of trust that is given freely.
Both characters are strong and you have an instant connection with them both. Their banter is so funny I had a couple of laugh out loud moments.
The story is hot and funny and sometimes heartbreaking.
Sierra Cartwright strikes again with her amazing writing!

LOVE CADE AND SUMMER

WOW! Brand may be my favorite of all of Sierra Cartwright's books.

I loved Cade and Sofia's story. They meet at Lara and Connor Donovan's wedding celebration. Sofia is an event planner and Cade Donovan is a cowboy who has a 100 year celebration to host, but didn't realize what he was getting himself into with this party.

The chemistry between these two is amazing and Cade Donovan is a Dom who know just how to push her. I could not put this book down and read it cover to cover. It is super hot and I can't wait to meet more of the Donovan Dynasty Series!

I am completely IN LOVE with CADE DONOVAN! That sexy cowboy can tie me up whenever he pleases! Sierra Cartwright gives us another sensual, passionate, and erotic romance in her fantastic DONOVAN DYNASTY series. I can never get enough of this author. Her writing is so addicting. Her characters are sexy and strong, and her storylines touch the heart. What more can you possibly ask for in this genre?

Cade and Sofia. Two very different characters that compliment each other so well. There is instant chemistry and smoldering heat between the two. One sassy event planner. One tortured gorgeous cowboy. Boom! You got yourself a unputdownable erotic romance!

The initial interaction between Cade and Sofia was HOT! They meet at another Donovan wedding. There is dancing and there is a dark corner where anything could happen. They part ways after just a taste and immediately they want more. Cade is in desperate need of Sofia’s services, event planning that is, and he will do just about anything to make that happen. They both have their demands for each other and the witty banter that ensues is so enjoyable to read.

Beautiful Sofia brings out the sexy dominant nature in Cade. He wants her to surrender, but she is inexperienced and unsure. One stormy night, the connection strengthens and Sofia gives in to her desires. Now, Cade wants so much more than a simple distraction. She brings light to his darkness. She chases away his demons. Sofia thinks being with Cade is too much of a risk, personally and professionally. But with touch after touch of his hands and his dominance, he consumes her and chases away her doubt. Now, whatever happens, it was definitely worth the risk.

I was completely invested in Sofia and Cade’s happily ever after. I cheered them on the whole way through. I was left satisfied and bursting with giddiness by the last page. This series has become a favorite of mine, and I can’t wait to see what happens next.
