This was quite an eye-opener!

This was very thorough on how to protect and free yourself from demonic bondage. However, I would have liked more clear distinction between the gifts of the Holy Spirit and how they work in relation to what is demonic. There is some very unclear, hit-and-miss comments made about the gifts of the Spirit that only confuse rather than shed light on the issue. Otherwise, it really helps you see what is unsafe for anyone to dabble in, not just Christians.

Having read this book as a senior in High School, I wanted to revisit it in the light of subsequent study and experience. It had a profound influence on me then as had many others from the 60's and 70's. Although MANY authors have seemed to fall into various areas in later years, this should not discourage us from finding nuggets of truth in their earlier research and experience. ...there but for the grace of God...May we continue to lift up all the teachers and preachers in prayer that they would have wisdom, discernment and protection from deception!

I love this series

I love this series, I homeschool and buy these every year. In the beginning of each new subject their is an introduction for the teacher which helps introduce the current topic and takes you through step by step. It helps you guide the kids through the current topic. The night before I go through and prepare my lesson, I highlight and underline stuff. This helps to make a great well planned lesson. They add a few questions for you to ask the kids etc. My point is I like how they ad a lesson plan. I wish I could find more workbooks like this.

Book is missing the pull-out keyboard and does not come with perforated workbook pages. I had to make photo copies the entire semester. Additionally, the binding falls apart pretty fast so you have to be very gentle with it.

I would not recommend this for those who take notes on textbook pages because the paper is very glossy.

I rec'd my copy of this AMAZING book last week. My daughter came to visit for the Memorial day holiday and we spent hours making all kinds of beauty treatments; it was like she was back in high school when we had so much time to spend with each other. Outstanding war epic

This comic book series is quite an achievement. At a time when every comic book author is clamoring to break into superhero books, the creator of Yi Soon Shin followed his own path. And in doing so, he has developed something quite original. Comics about war are few and far between. Yi Soon Shin is based on a true story that takes place at the turn of the 16th century in Korea, making it a one-of-a-kind comic book series. I admire what clearly must've been a tremendous amount of research to recreate the battles that took place in the 1590s between Korea and Japan. I have no idea if they actually are accurate, but they are written with such detail that they certainly give the impression of being historically valid.

First to the art. It's quite beautiful. The few female character (this is a war story after all) are perhaps too sexy and perfect, but other than that, the style is quite amazing. The details of the clothing and armor, the weapons, the ships!, the violence and blood, the explosions are all lovingly rendered. It's quite glorious to read.

The writing itself is serious. No exaggerated superhero-ish storytelling here. The author, Onrie Kompan, does a convincing job of recreating feudal Korea. He does use American colloquialisms at times, such as "man up" and "All right boys, let `em have it," which threw me slightly at first. But after following the story for a while, I decided that he had made a good choice going that direction. First of all, we are talking about a translation of what would have been said in 16th century Korean and Japanese. There can't possibly be a true translation of the idioms of something so long ago. Second of all, I came to feel that what was more important was that he was representing the sentiments and actions sincerely rather than trying to mimic something that would vaguely sound like Shakespeare's English. In the end, that would've gotten in the way of the reader enjoying the story and truly following it. Better he took a more natural path that communicated the events. Once I got past that, I felt the writing was outstanding. The story has tremendous suspense and tragedy. Heroism and villainy. Romance and friendship. The dialogue is rendered with both subtlety and boldness. Yet all believable, and amazingly, based on historical records. I'm glad that I didn't discover this series until the first four issues were out because I would've been dying to find out what happens next. These first issues complete one full story arc and apparently there are a couple more arcs to come. I can't wait.

Make no mistake, this is not a children's book. The violence is brutal. The author does not sugar coat the war. It is as intense as anything you might find in Full Metal Jacket, Saving Private Ryan or Johnny Get Your Gun. It's as bloody as a John Woo movie but without the "coolness" of the action. Instead, it is rather horrifying and honest. Dark, no doubt about that. This is war, kids. Not play action. I never would've picked up a war comic under normal circumstances, but I'm glad I found this by accident at my local comic book shop.

Lastly, I would note that this entire series was pulled of without being supported by a major comic book publishing company. This is quite impressive because the quality of the book is to the highest standard. Someone like Dark Horse or Image Comics should pick this series up. I think there might be a graphic novel collection of these first four issues coming out soon. If you ever watched Shogun when you were a kid or enjoy epic drama then this series is worth your time. Highly recommended.

Warrior and Defender #3: Still Going Strong

This issue is such a tease. I was done reading it within ten minutes; and it only left me wanting more. The story is very strong (over all three issues to date). The writing is superb. The art is awesome. You cannot ask for much more in a comic book series. At this point, all I can say is that if you haven't picked up the first two issues, and you are reading this review, what in the hell are you waiting for? Catch up!

Totally can't wait until issue four releases.

This is my first comic book ever purchased. Everything seems to be good except this is definitely not for children. I purchased all three books thinking I can show them to my kids and have them learn about Yi Soon Shin, but sigh, these are not fitting for 9 and 11 year old boys... Well, I guess I'll keep these till my kids go to college. : )

About the Author
is currently Director and Professor of Women Studies at University of California-Irvine. She received her Ph.D. in English from the University of California at Berkeley. A founder of Narika, an agency that addresses the needs of South Asian women in the U.S., she works with activist groups that focus on Asian women and immigration issues. She has authored a monograph and co-edited several books and journal issues, often with her long time collaborator Caren Kaplan. Her special interests include the history of British imperialism, non-western women travelers, consumer culture and globalization, South Asian women in diaspora, and the new transnational feminist activism

Caren Kaplan is currently Associate Professor and Chair of the Department of Women's Studies at the University of California at Davis. After receiving her Ph.D. in the History of Consciousness Program at the University of California at Santa Cruz, she served on the faculty in the Department of English at Georgetown University from 1986 to 1992. The author of a monograph as well as the co-editor of several books, she has collaborated with Inderpal Grewal for many years on essays and edited collections. Her special interests are the history of Western and international feminism, feminist theory, and aspects of imperialism and globalization such as travel, tourism, and information technologies.
